New York Times today ran a story about the prevalence of hugging, and how it has become such a normal greeting that those who do not participate are considered weird. WTF? How stupid are these people? You don't hug thus you are considered weird? I think at this point everyone is becoming too desensitized to the value of human interaction. First off, We take for granted face to face contact mostly because of the prevalence of cell phones and personal computers. Secondly, look at this generation of kids most of them are exposed to things we weren't exposed to until our mid to late teens! I mean this is the generation that made sexting a topic of national discussion. So of course they would think hugging should be as prevalent as breathing.
On another note, I'm not saying we need to stop all this behavior because all this type of exposure/behavior doesn't lead to sexual deviance. Take Europe for example, they're very open with sexuality and they aren't sexual deviants. However they are very protected when it comes to personal affairs, meaning they value the quality of the company they keep. But really, this is just another case of non-conformity making other people "uncomfortable." My last words are simply that "weird" is not necessarily bad, "weird" can be interesting and fun. Do what is comfortable for you, not for someone else. What's "normal" most of the time is really really lame, I mean look around...
